Notes on Recent Software Updates

Every week we make additional improvements to our software for both our consumer & professional users.  On this page we highlight some of the most recent changes.

Feel free to contact us at membership@balancefinancial.com or chat with us using the "live help" button to your left.

New UI Jan 16.pngUpdates worth noting as of January 16, 2012.

Here are some of the new releases this week.

1.  New charting engine throughout the application.

We changed how we display charts and graphs in Balance and we think you will like what you see.  This new charting tool allows you to change whether you see a chart, graph or nothing at all.  This impacts the itemized report and bill history section of the application.

2.  Reporting wizard launched - export to PDF & build custom reports

Under our Reports section, you can now build and export reports to PDF.  Our Reports Wizard allows you to create PDF reports of various spending reports.  You can also create a cover page for each report with a custom logo and other details.

new ui 3.pngUpdates worth noting as of January 10, 2012.

To help ring in the New Year we decided to give Balance a bit of a makeover.

1.  We made some major user interface and look and feel changes to Balance that we wanted to share.  We tried to leave all of the features, buttons, links and other elements in the exact same spot where possible so hopefully you will find this new UI an easy transition.

2.  We also launched a new keyword feature that lets you memorize a transaction based on any memorized keyword in the transaction description.  This was you can customize the automation Balance provides down t
o a very personal level.

We look forward to any feedback you may have.

Also, stay tuned for some more big and exciting changes coming ahead soon.

splits.pngUpdates worth noting as of November 21, 2011.

The major update this week is splits.

1.  We added the ability to split transactions which you will find in the Transactions report under the Reports tab.  To split a transaction, select the Edit button in line with the transaction.  From there you will see the option to split the transaction.  Once you select the Split button a new window will appear.  In this window you can split the transaction as many times as required.  A running total of the transaction balance will display at the bottom.  If the total amount of the splits is greater than or less than the original transaction amount than the split cannot be save.

2.  Also this week we continue to launch additional features for our Professional users.  Be sure to talk with your relationship manager for more details of additional features.

Updates worth noting as of November 8, 2011.

Change Client View.pngThere are two quick updates that we wanted to share.  First, for Professional users, we have moved the "Change Client View" form field as shown below.  Now, if you have access to multiple accounts within Balance, you will find the form field on the top header of the website.  This gives more room on the left hand column to view lists, account balances and professional contact information.

month budgets.pngAnother major update is the ability to manage budget categories and budgeted amounts by a month by month basic.  As shown below, you can either create a Basic budget that will average your alloted amount throughout the year evenly or you can create an Advanced budget amount by designating specific amounts for specific months.  This is perfect for quarterly tax or insurance payments or for seasonal related expenses like travel or energy.

Updates worth noting as of October 26, 2011.

Budget categories.pngWe have a number of new updates worth noting this week.  First off, we will cover changes to the reporting section.  As shown in the screen shot to the right, we have reorganized the reports list on the left column in Balance.  This is designed to make it easier to find reports and navigate this section.  You will notice that instead of the three sub tabs for the different reports and the navigation on the left, we have put everything on the list to the left.

You will also notice that we have changed the Categories & Budget section as well.  This is a major overhaul which includes adding sub-categories to the Manage Budget section.  Under the Manage Categories & Budget section, you can edit a category, add a sub-category and set a budgeted amount to the category.

sub categories.pngAlong with adding sub-categories, we have adjusted most of the report templates to include sub-categories.

Another change that impacts a little less than 2% of transactions in Balance is a new feature for Pending transactions.  Some banks , in particular Wells Fargo, post transactions that are Pending then when that transaction clears, the status is changed to Cleared.  This was causing an issue with duplicate transactions in Balance.  As of today, any Pending transaction will now be shown as Pending and then will go away after it converts to Cleared.

hide account.pngAnother major change for reports has to do with downloading transactions from your financial accounts and displaying account balances.   A common request by users was to be able to hide or disable certain sub accounts within the accounts they connected to Balance.  So, today we are releasing a new feature shown to the right that allows users to connect their online accounts and then "disable" certain sub accounts that they do not want displayed or included in reports.  Shown to the right is how your accounts list looks with the new "Disable" button on the left.  Select this button and the account will have a line appear through the account to show that the account is disabled.

Another major feature this week has to do with our Professional Suite.  We have released our new Organizations structure for Family Office clients that have multiple professional users and clients under one central organization.  This feature provides for payment approvals, managing users and viewing organization related reports.

link accounts.pngAnother feature that we have rolled out is the ability to link your bill pay account with your reporting accounts.  When you connect a US bank account to Balance for bill payment, you can now link that account within Balance in order to see the recent balance.  The images on the right show how to connect the accounts by selecting the "Auto Link Accounts" button.
